A multidisciplinary conference hosted by the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics, bringing together researchers and practitioners across neuroscience, philosophy, journalism, ethics, and Indigenous studies to explore consciousness through psychedelic science.
States of Consciousness is a multi-day, in-person-only conference exploring uncertainty in the study of consciousness through the lens of psychedelic science. Hosted by the UC Berkeley Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP), it brings together roughly 250 researchers, practitioners, and scholars for keynote talks, panels, interactive breakouts, and an interdisciplinary poster session, moving beyond traditional lecture formats.
The program examines how psychedelics research informs and challenges contemporary understandings of the brain, mind, and consciousness, while fostering interdisciplinary partnerships and working to destigmatize research into subjective and expanded states of consciousness. The conference also features meaningful engagement with Indigenous knowledge systems on plant and fungal medicines. Registration is $300 with a deadline of September 1, 2026; discounted tickets are available for those facing a cost barrier.
A special pre-conference event on October 13, 2026 features a conversation between Michael Pollan and Christof Koch at Zellerbach Hall, co-presented by Cal Performances.
